"A civilization is destroyed only when its gods are destroyed." (Emil Cioran). "The symbol of the empire" comes as a subtle act, a metaphoric expression attempting to highlight present-day forms of art, essences emerged from the ideational manifestations of a civilization, transmitted by symbols and reason, and spiced with the lucid sarcasm born out of the nonsense-studded reality of today. These forms of art are the exhibits of a true museum in motion, one which binds one intellect to another into "subcultures", distilled and filtered in turn according to uniquely refined criteria, an empire of inner worlds resonating under the same vibrations, so diversely and so creatively. | |
Second Edition: Triarii + Empusae + BLNIn February 2015, Signvm Imperii presents Second Edition: Triarii + Empusae + BLN. Exclusive interviews with the artists:
Reveal/Hide RO Version
"You must be ready to burn yourself in your own flame; how could you rise anew if you have not first become ashes?" (F. Nietzsche) Signvm Imperii continues to push forth the marks of awareness in its second act, even richer in content and gleaming with symbols. Its few well-chosen words, the carefully selected imagery and endless depths of its soundscapes will come to its spectators, as mere gateways to long forgotten paths. TRIARII (DE), a reference act for the martial industrial genre, will march once again on Romanian soil at our Signvum Imperii edition. TRIARII has begun their "Ars Militaria" in 2005, forging the armor of a grandiose martial sound, warning on the decline of occidental values and reconsidering the personal Greco-Roman believes; the modern ages' Crepuscule des Dieux is painted forward on "Piece Heroique", again paying his tribute of roses to ancient Rome and envisioning a new Europa on "Muse in Arms" in 2008. On the same label where the former discs have been released, Eternal Soul Records, Christian Erdmann gathers his spiritual legions once more for his solemn and vigil "Exile" in 2011. TRIARII disturbs the comfort zone in which we have been enclosed by the present world-weariness. Their music forces us to look "at war, our own depravity and our lust for destruction" and renders us conscious of the modernity through a symbolic confrontation with the past. Erdmann responds with bellicose-exalted compositions to the very fanaticism he has been accused of, showing such opinions are but spit against the wind. On the 12th of February, Control Club Bucharest will shelter the European legion of TRIARII for a display of martial-art elegance and a majestic concert. This time Christian Erdmann will be accompanied on stage by Nicolas Van Meirhaeghe of Empusae. We have laid our weapons. Now "it comes down to the Triarii". + When confronted with such musical complexity, one may be surprised to learn that Empusae (BE) is actually a project created by a single man, Nicolas Van Meirhaeghe aka Sal-Ocin. Empusae exercises a surreal science of structure that throbs and pulsates in an almost obsessive manner. The music is almost suggestive of a mechanical assembly line in its clockwork clunks and clangs. It builds into a tense, yet haunting soundscape and rivets itself into the memory, refusing to be forgotten. Empusae's early journeys began from the depths of post-apocalyptic industrial and urban wastelands on albums such as "Funestus" (2002) and "Error 404: Metaphorical Loss" (2005), to gradually drift into organic ritualistic sounds of wilderness in nature, and remnants of shamanic drumbeats. Empusae became more settled, a bit calmer but never less intensive. Sphere from the woods (2013) brings ivy-soundscapes bathed in mysticism, winding up the trees from all their roots up to their crowns and in the sky. The latest addition to to his discography is pieced together using a selection of live tracks from 2012-2013 Empusae concerts, in the form of the the 2014 release entitled Rutsu No Hoyo. The album brings a harmonious and inciting resume of Sal-Ocin's evolutive apogee, in mastering the sound concept and ambient layers of Empusae. Sal-Ocin describes his music as a soundtrack for the listener's personal fantasies. Being a member of various other project such as This Morn' Omina, Tzolk'in, Project Arctic and a live member of In Slaughter Natives, Ah Cama-Sotz, IC 434, Triarii, TriOre and Sophia, Sal-Ocin isn't afraid of working together with other artists (Nick Grey, Arcana, ISN, ORE and many others). + Started in 1997 as a hobby, Brazda lui Novac (BLN) is currently the widely appreciated project of Romanian musician Victor Popescu. An unexpected fusion of genres, BLN is built around synth, electro, 80's new wave and shoegaze areas, even bringing an industrialist feel at times, nostalgic for the dawn of IDM. In 2003, Victor started his own recording studio, followed by Square Sound Records in 2009, enabling him to include additional hardware support in his work. The project has held several concerts in Romania and around Europe, standing out through both its own compositions, as well as the collaborative works together with Yvat, Silent Strike, Dezz and Artan. Their latest release - "Moldern" - has been launched in 2013 as a two-disc album, bringing an even more complex composition and the first vocals feature of the project to date. + The concert will be followed by an afterparty in the same location, organised by O.D.K. in collaboration with DJ Will from Bulgaria, experienced in martial and post-industrial genres as well. Visual projections will continue to accompany us through the night. DJ WILL has been hosting industrial parties since 1995. He’s started at the legendary club Chaos in Sofia, organising evenings in all of the city's underground clubs throughout the years. Since 2008, Will has been organizing the annual underground industrial festival by the name of Black Sun Rising open-air near Sofia. + Event tickets will be priced at 40 RON at the venue.
